FOUR FORKS UP FOR BERNIE’S SOUTHERN BISTRO

It’s Friday night, you’ve gone to a couple of wine tastings, now you are looking for dinner – maybe something comforting, but with great flavors. . . .  well, we want to suggest Bernie’s Southern Bistro (282-9864).  Located at 29th & Alberta, this storefront restaurant could easily be overlooked, but it’s worth the effort to find it- and, it has a great garden patio in the back with a fountain and lots of plants.

To start, we shared fried green tomatoes and catfish fingers – great!  Then we tried the “fried chicken” – boneless, skinless chicken breast, marinated and deep fried – tender and delicious;  bbq ribs – boneless, very tender and flavorful and a peppered steak – equally delicious.  Garlic mashed potatoes, potato salad, greens, etc. are served with the meals.  Catfish, jambalaya and other traditional southern dishes are also recommended.  Their warm cornbread served with soft butter was heavenly.  Unfortunately, we had no room for dessert – but there’s always another time -- Your roving “gourmets”:  Richard Stinson, Karl Mantei, Mark Lindau & Judy Erdman
