The Cayuse are a Native American tribe which is affiliated with the Umatilla and Walla Walla tribes.  In 1997, a then young French Vigneron by the name of Christophe Baron visited the redundantly named town and fell in love with a few acres of useless, stone covered farmland.  Cristophe named his enterprise after that Native American tribe.

He deftly turned his “Field of Stones” into one of the most acclaimed vineyards making some of the most spectacular wines in the region.  For the last 20 years, Christophe has made it his mission to craft food friendly wines of incredible depth, individuality and character from fruit grown using “biodynamic” farming methods.

All his wines sell out as futures.  Even though the wines are very expensive, Cayuse continued to have a waiting list to buy futures even during the Great Recession.  Cristophe makes two Syrahs:  En Cerise Vineyard and En Chamberlin Vineyard. Fortunately for us, our member Dr. Mark Lindau has been on that futures list for many years and is willing to part with some real treasures from each Syrah vineyard.

Jakes Grill is a wonderful old world style eatery located in the historic Sentinel (formerly known as the Governor) Hotel. This stately hotel was built in 1909 following the Lewis and Clark Exposition.  Inspired by tradition, Jake’s Grill is proud to serve the finest meat and seafood in a classic, uncomplicated style.

You will find one of the best steaks in Portland here. Chef Adam Harpe is working on a 3 course menu to complement the wines chosen for this evening.  We will start with 2 bottles each of nice white Burgundy and white Rhone from Dr. Mark’s cellar.  We will then enjoy Cayuse Syrahs including:
