The 1994 vintage of pinot noir generated near universal excitement with the press and most pinot noir lovers of Oregon's signature grape.  The wines are characterized by the growing conditions and the unpredictable weather in Oregon.  The final results yielded a small crop of very high quality wines.  Many of the wines were very concentrated and ripe with forward fruit that was most attractive in their youth.  The best producers’ wines not only were loaded with fruit but also had considerable tannins to carry the wines for many years.  The 1994 Pinots are the second year of two great Oregon vintages in a row, and is ready to drink at this time.  Now celebrating their 20th anniversary year it’s time to revisit these wines with a showcase Oregon feast to be presented in the spectacular setting at the Maginnis home.

The growing season began with a cool spring, and cool weather prevailed into the early summer. A small crop resulted due to the weather conditions at flowering.  What fruit there was enjoyed near perfect summer conditions.  Mother Nature cooperated with a classic Indian Summer through September and well into October allowing growers to obtain fully ripe fruit and choose their picking time at their leisure.  The results yielded a very ripe but small crop with high sugar levels and high quality.

WFSO member Harry Kamin has gone back twenty years in his cellar to pour the 1994 Pinots for this event.  The following wines were all well reviewed by the Wine Advocate at release averaging between 90 to 94 points back in an era when scores and ratings were not so overinflated as today. These are some of the most revered producers and vineyards of Oregon Pinot Noir.

Come taste these treasures and maybe a few added surprises.  Bring your Oregon Pinot Noir glasses for maximum pleasure.
