There is a good possibility that harvest and crush will have begun by September 10th. In which event, this will be a record early harvest. We are fortunate that Red Ridge Farms and Durant Vineyards are still willing to receive our group. It should be a great time. After arriving at Red Ridge Farms, we will stroll through their beautiful nursery which is the heart of their farm. They feature an extensive selection of culinary herbs; specializing in Lavender and Rosemary varieties. The English style gardens include twisting paths of interconnected hedges, a koi pond, and a zen fountain. We will then tour some of their 17 acres of olive trees planted just outside their Olive Mill. This experimental new crop for Oregon is revealing varietals that offer increased hardiness (and yields). See how olive oil gets from the tree to the table. Tour the mill and taste some olive oils. Finally, savor the wine country vistas as we sit down to a wonderful dinner and Durant Vineyard wines to round out our tour. We expect to compare different elevations, clones and vintages of their estate while further exploring ways in which wine and olive oil play off one another. Our professional driver will drive us safely back to Lake Oswego. We expect to arrive at the high school around 9:45pm. |
