More than one of our members has raved about the quality of the food at Duck House. So at our Planning Meeting last September, this event was born. Champagne and Chinese food go well together.
Duck House serves authentic Szechuan Chinese Food, located in downtown Portland, Oregon. One of  Portland's newest Chinese restaurants, it’s located at the corner of SW 5th and College Street near Portland State University.  Co-owner Harvey Liu says Duck House is a collaborative effort with San Diego restaurant owner Ivan Liu and owner-manager Sam Woo. It was born out of what they felt was a dearth of good Chinese restaurants in Portland.
"As a Taiwanese-American, I hear repeatedly, from Chinese people—and from Asian people in general for that matter—that we don't have good Chinese food in Portland," Liu says. He's hoping that his team can remedy that perception. Each attendee will order a dish off their regular menu; to share with everyone else at the table.  
Portions are large and include specialties like Beef Noodle Soup, Xiao Long Bao, Dan Dan Noodles, Chinese Water Spinach sautéed in Garlic, Eggplant with String Beans, and dry pots, including one that Liu, himself, had never tried before: Intestines mixed with Red Chiles. Liu says it quickly turned him into a convert.
Can you tell a Grand Cru Champagne from non-Grand Cru?  Can you tell a Brut Natural from a Brut Reserve? Can you taste the difference between Veuve and Kirkland? We will answer these questions and more when we BLIND TASTE the 5 Champagnes pictured above and try to guess which is which? It’ll be a fun time for all. Register early to assure your spots at the table.
