’97 CALIFORNIA MAGNUM CABERNET TASTING (BLACK TIE OPTIONAL)

Wine Room, Embassy Suites Hotel, 319 SW Pine Street, Portland

Every once in a while we have wines important enough for a Black Tie Optional Event. Downtown Embassy Suites Food and Beverage Director Kaspar Maurer, Catering Manager Kara Swadley, Executive Chef Kevin Graham, and Sous Chef Glen Nichols are working to pull out all stops for this wonderful event.  The 1997 vintage is generally regarded as the best vintage of the 1990’s in California and possibly beyond. We are fortunate to be able to taste five of the best Cabs and two of the best Sangioveses in one sitting.  Here’s the early “Conceptual” Menu.

Fresh Oysters                        ‘97 Louis Roederer Vintage Brut Champagne

(Now about $245 per bottle and up in restaurants)

Starter Course                     Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay

Fowl Course                       ‘97 Rutherford Hill Twenty Third Anniversary Bottling

(w/starch or veg) and       ’97 Silverado Vineyards en Magnums

Red Meat Course                ’97 Silver Oak Alexander Valley and ’97 Ch. Montelena

  (w/starch and veg)              en Magnums

Cheese Course                    ’97 Caymus Special Select en Magnum

(hearty)                                 (Now $359 per single bottle at WineAccess.com)

Chocolate Dessert               ’97 Viansa Piccolo and ’97 Viansa Thalia en Magnums

(These two are big, heavy Italian style Sangioveses)

The magnums are all in perfect condition, with high fill levels, and have been stored in perfect conditions since their releases.  This will be another great Society bargain.   BETTER YET, SIGN UP NOW!

Cost: $150.00/Members and $175.00/Non-Members.

Limit: 20.
